Dan is Mick’s Magpas Man of the Match

Magpas XI player Dan Williams was awarded The Mick George Ltd. Man of the Match Trophy after his sterling performance in the first Magpas celebrity fundraising football match at St Ives Town Football Club on Sunday 13th May.

magpas_celeb_teamOver 300 spectators gathered in the sunshine to watch a match played with great enthusiasm and dedication to the cause by both sides with the aim of the day being to raise much needed funds for the lifesaving work of emergency medical charity Magpas Helimedix.

MC Harvey was part of the celebrity side which included former AC Milan and England striker Luther Blissett and ex-Norwich forward Leon McKenzie as they challenged a Magpas charity side consisting of members of the Magpas Helimedix team, former patients, volunteers, supporters and St Ives Town FC players as well as the Club’s joint managers Jez Hall and Warren Everdell.

The Magpas XI scored the first goal of the match and were off to a flying start. They battled hard but ex pro Leon McKenzie, who retired from professional football in December, was on top form scoring the last goal in the dying moments of the game for his hat trick and drawing a line under the match at 6-3 to the celebrities.

Celebrity team captain Blissett awarded two-goal Magpas player Dan Williams the Mick George Ltd. Man of the Match and told local reporters “He was very bright in the early stages and caused us a few problems, and took his opportunities to score. As the game went on, and we took control, but he was showing willingness to get into the right positions to cause us problems especially when we lost the ball. If he had a couple more opportunities he would have scored some more”
